Anna Edwards, a retired Barren County school teacher, is a member of the Arts Guild of the Barrens and the Scottsville Art Guild. As as child, Anna P. Edwards always had a love for art. For Christmas one year, she was given a finger painting kit buy her aunt. This sparked her interest in painting. She also loved to color and design clothes for her paper dolls. Anytime she had a quiet moment she would "doodle" in her notebooks and folders.
Anna did not have any formal art training but was able to keep her love of art alive as a teacher by helping her students develop their own skills, creating drawings for science and biology classes. Sketching depictions of microscopic cells, or even drawing and labeling the parts of a flower gave her students the opportunity to explore their own abilities. With her students' help, Edwards also created themed bulletin boards in the hallways of her school. Her first formal art class was not until she retired from teaching in 1995. She began studying drawing and watercolor with Jane Kehrt, a professional artist, to begin honing her skills. Learning the techniques of light and shadow gave her the ability to more realistically portray subjects she wanted to draw.
Painting is more than a hobby; Anna finds that it is very therapeutic for her. She can easily become engrossed in her art. When Anna is in her studio, she does not want to stop creating, and finds herself working into the early morning hours. Time seems to melt away when she is at her easel. Recreating the blossoms on a Dogwood Tree or capturing the serenity of an old wooden barn, allows her to escape in to a world that only she can develop. She also enjoys creating something from nothing. Sometimes she indulges in abstracts, which allows her to press her imagination to its fullest potential. The gives the observer to interpret her painting through their own eyes.
She works with many mediums including ink pen, pencil, acrylics and pastels. Her favorite, by far, is watercolor. She hs entered several art shows, allowing her to win a number of awards. Anna also enjoys working with young people interested in art.
